About Bodegas Barón & 44 Group
I would hope for many the 44 group needs no introduction! Started by Owen and Tom Morgan in 2002 their Spanish Tapas restaurants and Parrilla grill restaurant, Asador44, are not only adored by the people of Cardiff, Penarth, Cowbridge and Bristol and beyond, but also by renowned critics such as Tom Parker Bowles and Fiona Beckett (people that REALLY know their food). Walking into one of their restaurants is akin to a magical gateway that transports you to a cherished memory of Spain...as you can tell we are fans!
As for Bodegas Barón, not only are they one of the oldest Bodegas in the region, they also make some of the best sherry the region has to offer. Owen and Tom have been friends with the family that run the Bodega for some years. Owen is even a brand ambassador for the Bodega. For some time they have been looking to collaborate and bottle a Manzanilla that both could be proud of. The Bodegas has never released a sherry with anyone else before so it really is a huge achievement.
This is what Manzanilla is all about! fresh green apple, delicate floral notes, almond and a citrus edge. It's bone dry on the palate and those citrus and apple notes come through bright and clean. A remarkable sherry that deserves a heap of salty almonds and pungent olives, as well as your full attention.
One last note, leave your pre-conceptions at the door regarding sherry, it's one of the most versatile and exciting wines you can drink. This sherry should be on everybody's list of top wines 12 months of the year...beautiful.
