Gran Cerdo Blanco - This is a very glugable natural wine made from, mainly, Viura. Soft orchard fruit and medium bodied, it’s fresh and fun. It’s the embodiment of the non-conformist that created it and is in our wine rack waiting for just about any occasion. The label and the name (Big Pig) are a poke at the bankers who refused Gonzalo loans to pursue his ambition in wine, you have to love him for that.
Gran Cerdo Tinto - Raspberry and dark berries with a floral note of violets give way to something a little more earthy. Its Tempranillo with no oak so it sings of the variety, no vanilla here! Its got Tannin and acidity to balance out the fruitiness. There is no doubt about it, the wines of Gonzalo Grijalba are ridiculous value for money and represent natural wines without the funkiness.
Vignerons d'Estezargues, Les Oliviers - The nose is black pepper and ripe cherry with dark plum and something a little more savoury to boot, smooth on the palate and very drinkable with well developed tannins. Great food wine and a hell of a price for this much Rhone.
Vignerons d'Estezargues, Les Galet - Blueberry, blackberry, liquorice, pepper and nutmeg. Lots of body and a backbone of acidity to freshen up a big wine. It’s un-oaked so all about the fruit. Unfiltered so maybe some sediment.
Bacchus Rosso Piceno Ciu Ciu - An Italian red just aching to be shared and enjoyed. Red cherry, raspberry and a nose full of morello cherry. All the fruit follows through on the palate with all the promise of that fresh juiciness delivering in spades. Pizza night will never be the same again.
Ciello Bianco - Bags of tropical fruits, lemon and a nice amount of body. Grapefruit on the palate keeping it fresh but, as mentioned, nicely balanced with a bit of weight. This wine is unfiltered so can be quite cloudy, nothing unusual for this style of wine. Fantastic value entry level natural wine.
